The spring writing retreat is a chance to meet fellow children’s writers, develop new friendships or renew old, get up-to-date on industry news, and make professional contacts. Scholastic editors Grace Kendall and Mallory Kass will join us for a working weekend of critique circles and fellowship.

To apply send THREE COPIES of the following:

• The five manuscript pages you would choose to read to an editor
• A statement of no more than 250 words describing how you and your writing will benefit from the weekend
• A short paragraph explaining your financial need for the scholarship.

YOUR NAME MUST NOT APPEAR ON ANY OF THE COPIES but be sure to include a cover sheet with your name, phone number and email address.

The applications will be reduced to five finalists.  Each application will be given a number and then a team of three WPASCBWI members will assess the anonymous applications. INCOMPLETE OR LATE ENTRIES WILL BE DISQUALIFIED. The winner will be announced March 5, 2012. If the winner has already paid a deposit, it will be refunded.

Not everyone will have their first page read but we will read and Jennifer will respond to as many as we can. She will also offer a brief Q and A session. Even if your manuscript is not read this is a valuable opportunity to hear her repond to writing to get a feel for what she looks for.
