Join us for an evening of critiquing and socializing with your fellow writers and illustrators. Please bring a main dish, salad, side dish, or dessert. Beverages will be provided. To register, please Email Pat at patheaston@aol.com. Please include your name, phone number and what dish you’ll bring to the critiquenic. Pat will Email directions to you when you register.
Also, this is your chance to enter our annual contest. Entries are only accepted at the critiquenic. This year’s contest is a poem suitable for elementary children or young adults. One entry per member. The prize is a free fall conference! Your name should not appear on the same page as your poem, but please include all of your pertinent information (name, address, Email, phone number) on a separate cover sheet. Poems will be evaluated by three judges anonymously.

Bring five manuscript pages or a finished illustration to have critiqued in peer critique groups.

Also bring either a main dish salad, side dish salad, or a dessert.

Cost: FREE

You’ve written a manuscript, but you’d like to get another opinion of your work.  The summer critiquenic is the perfect opportunity.  You’ll have the chance to chat with other local SCBWI members and enjoy a relaxing picnic lunch.  After lunch, everyone will break into small groups for critique sessions.  Please bring five pages of your manuscript to read to the group.

To register: Email Pat Easton at patheaston@aol.com or call her at 724-941-4332.  Include your phone number when Emailing. Please bring a salad, side dish or dessert to share with the group.  Directions will be posted on the blog. We can car pool for those interested. Cost: $5 (to cover the cost of paper plates, beverages, etc.) or an entry in the contest.

Contest: An unpublished nonfiction article for middle-grade students.  It should be no more than 1200 words.  Only one entry is allowed per member, and it must be submitted in person at the summer critiquenic.  Anyone bringing an entry will not have to pay the registration fee for this event.  Winner receives a free registration to the 2010 fall conference.  Entries should be double-spaced with a cover sheet containing the author’s name, address, telephone number, and Email.  Do not type your name on any of the other sheets.  Good luck.  We hope to see you there!
